Fire Risk Assessments

Is your fire risk assessment up to date?

In order to comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, a Fire Safety Risk Assessment must be carried out by a responsible person. A Fire Risk Assessment will evaluate your commercial premises in terms of fire safety hazards, to people and property.

A qualified assessor will arrange to visit your premises and make a physical inspection of the location and provide you with a clear concise report. The assessor's report will include a detailed, prioritised Action Plan which will advise you on how to minimise fire risks specific to your location.

FAQs

What are Fire Risk Assessments?

A fire risk assessment is designed to identify any fire hazards; it identifies people at risk; evaluates, removes or reduces the risks and records the findings. From this assessment you then prepare an emergency plan and provide staff training.

Scope of the assessment: the identification of emergency routes and exits; a review of detection and warning systems and fire fighting equipment; the removal or safe storage of dangerous substances, and it will be used to create an emergency evacuation plan that takes into account the requirements of vulnerable people, e.g. the elderly, young children or those with disabilities. The assessment report will provide information to employees and other people on the premises and it will put in place staff fire safety training.

Why do I need a Fire Risk Assessment?

If you are an employer, owner, landlord or occupier of a business or other non-domestic premises in England or Wales, you are responsible for fire safety and are known as the 'responsible person'. As the responsible person, there are certain things that you are required to do by law under the Fire Safety Order 2005, which is enforced by your local fire and rescue authority.

If you don’t follow fire safety regulations you could get fined and/or go to prison. Local fire and rescue authorities inspect premises and can issue fire safety notices telling you about changes you might need to make to your premises.

How long does the assessment take?

The duration of a risk assessment will vary depending on the size and type of premises; small retail premises may take 30-45 minutes, a larger warehouse may take 2-3 hours. Once the site assessment is completed we will produce a comprehensive report, including and Action Plan, that is delivered to you usually within five working days.

Who carries out the assessment?

The fire risk assessor is a 'competent person' who is familiar with the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and has good experience and knowledge of fire safety. The assessor will tell you what you need to do to comply with fire safety law, will carry out a fire risk assessment and identify the general fire precautions you need to have in place.

What is the result of the assessment?

The assessment will result in comprehensive report that includes an Action Plan detailing any remedial work to be carried out to ensure you comply with The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

What area do you cover with your fire risk assessments?

We are based in the heart of the Black Country and carry out fire risk assessments throughout the West Midlands.
